Another meal prepared by Grandma while I was traveling. When I picked out this recipe before I left, it sounded new and different with the addition of salsa. A few tweaks to fit our family and we found a perfect dish. Grandma told me she prepared the sloppy joe filling while the girls were at school and stored it in the refrigerator. Then when it was time for dinner, she just reheated the filling in the microwave and dinner was ready.
Not Your Usual Sloppy Joes
Serves 6
1 pound
extra lean ground beef
1 1/2
cups ketchup
1 cup
chunky salsa
2
tablespoons brown sugar
1
tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2
tablespoons white vinegar
2
tablespoons Dijon mustard
6
hamburger buns, split
Heat a
large skillet over medium-high heat and stir in the ground beef. Cook and stir
until the beef is cooked through and no longer pink. Drain.
Stir in
ketchup, salsa, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, white vinegar, and
mustard. Bring to a simmer and cook,
stirring occasionally, over low heat 20 to 30 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.
